Tehran – The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, politburo chairman Khaled
Mishaal affirmed that the truce that his Movement along with other Palestinian
resistance factions had accepted was, in Hamas’ view, a tactical step in the
battle against the “Israeli enemy”, and that this truce had achieved its purpose
and was never respected by the Israelis.
He stressed that his Movement’s approval to calm down was in no way a
deviation from the strategic option of Hamas and the Palestinian people behind
it, which is the resistance, emphasizing, “It is natural now to return back to the
strategic option, to defend the Palestinian people, and to run a new stage of
struggle against the Israeli occupation of our lands”.
The Quds press agency quoted Mishaal as saying during a meeting in Tehran on
Wednesday with members of a society defending the Palestinian people,
“Hamas has ended all preparations to contest the upcoming crucial legislative
elections in spite of persisting rumors on postponing the process due to
profound rift in the PA Fatah party”.
He, however, made it clear that Hamas is against any adjournment of the
process, noting, “Any attempt in this regard will definitely be harmful to the
Palestinian people’s national interests, and would even escalate mischief and
corruption in addition to boosting the monopoly of authority by one faction”.
Hamas, he underlined, was hoping to join the parliament in order to rearrange
the Palestinian internal home, fight corruption, bring about administrative
reform, enhance the Palestinian people’s steadfastness, and then reach
common grounds with all Palestinian factions to establish a political Palestinian
system based on partnership, and collective decision-making among other
goals.
Mishaal asserted that Hamas wasn’t concerned with the Israeli political
differences, and that it doesn’t care who would lead the Hebrew state as all of
them, he stressed, were against the Palestinian people, although having
different ideologies. The Hamas leader underscored, “They are all our enemies
and occupiers of our lands, and we will fight them till we retrieve all our
usurped legal rights and lands”.
