Anti-semitism in the Egyptian media

Part I: Holocaust Denial

Recent international events relating to the memory of the Holocaust, the
election of Joerg Haider in Austria, and Israelâs reaction to Hizbullahâs
activity in South Lebanon have significantly increased the anti-Semitic
rhetoric in both the government and opposition Egyptian press.

Crematoriums Never Existed

In an article in the government daily Al-Gumhuriya, columnist Dr. Lutfi
Nasef denies that crematoriums ever existed. He blames Zionism for
cooperating with Nazism, and Israel for committing atrocities far greater
than the Nazi crimes:

“Zionist propaganda continues, even today, to raise the issue of the Nazi
crematoriums for Jews, although the historical evidence, revealed by
renowned German, British, and French historians, proved that claims that
such crematoriums existed in the Nazi detention camps are jokes… used by the Zionist movement for two purposes: first, to terrify the
European countries during WWII so that the Jews would flee from Europe to
Palestine, because the Zionist movement realized that the Jews ignored its
call to immigrate to Palestine.”

Zionists Helped the Nazis

“To achieve this goal, the Zionist movement cooperated with some Nazi
leaders and especially the ‘Hitlerist’ SS in order to increase the terror
against the Jews. This reached the point where the Zionist
movement cooperated with some Nazi military leaders in planning massacres
against Jews in the detention camps. It is possible that the massacres in a
detention camp in Budapest in which thousands of Jews were killed, proves
the joint conspiracy planned by the Zionist movement .”

“The Zionist movement learned that Jewish immigrants fleeing were
not heading to Palestine, but rather to America. Therefore, it planned a
crime even worse than the Budapest massacre. It plotted to sink a ship
crossing the ocean on its way to the US carrying many Jewish
immigrants… the purpose was to terrify the Jews so that they would fear
crossing the ocean and chose a safer option — traveling to Palestine…”

“There is no comparison between the Nazi crimes and even one of the
many massacres suffered by Arabs and Muslims throughout the world. We do
not deal with the history of Israeli massacres in Deir Yassin and
other places. However, it suffices to mention recent history — the Qana
massacre and many other massacres continuing to this very day against the
brave Lebanese people.”

“The European countries talk these days about the Holocaust… But none of
them think about the Iraqi people who are being annihilated through
starvation, disease, and missiles by the US and its allies.” (1)

Holocaust Numbers are a Myth

Columnist Muhammad ‘Abd Al-‘Azim writes in the government daily
Al-Gumhuriya: “The purpose of Israel is to remind Europe and the US of the
crematoriums in which, according to Israeli claims, six million Jews were
killed. Yet, in their historical research, scholars emphasize that this
figure is greatly exaggerated. â¦ records published by Jewish organizations
in the US mentioned that during Hitler’s time, there were only three million
Jews in Europe, as was determined by the great French intellectual, Rojer
Garaudi. Israel’s purpose in commemorating the Holocaust is to keep these
countries under the weight of a guilt complex in order to continue to extort
millions of dollars from them. This is, in addition to the political
blackmail, especially of Germany, the US, Switzerland and other countries.” (2)

Columnist Muhammad Al-Sammak of Al-Ahram, a government daily, also states
that the Jewish “crematorium theory” was only meant to extort from Europe
and “force on it, generation by generation, the complex of its uncommitted
sins.”

“The Treblinka camp may have been real, but the Al-Khiyam camp in South
Lebanon is also real. It is possible that the Auschwitz camp witnessed a
great massacre, but so did Qana in South Lebanon. Furthermore, all of
Lebanon has become a constant scene for Israeli massacresâ¦ what is the
difference, then, between Zionism and anti-Semitism?” (3)

Nazism Includes Clinton and Jospin

In the opposition “Labor party,” daily Al-Sha’ab, columnist Dr.
Hilmi Mahmoud Al-Qa’oud writes: “the Nazism of the Jews and the Nazism of
the Crusaders” :

“The Crusaders’ Nazism does not see any fault in the deeds of Jewish Nazism.
Rather, it gives [‘Jewish Nazism’] support, because it created it and
nurtured it as a base… in the land of the Muslims… The Nazism of the
Crusaders is not represented by Hitler or Joerg Haider alone, but also by
Clinton and Jospin — they are all of the same dynasty and Jewish Nazism is
no different from the Nazism of the Crusaders. Both believe in racism and
the supremacy of the European race over other races.”

The columnist later proposes Jihad as “the ideal way to deter both kinds
of Nazism, that of the Crusaders and that of the Jews. ” (4)

Israel is the Second Nazi State

Columnist Dr. Hassan Rajab writes in the government daily Al-Akhbar: “Israel
is the second country, after Nazi Germany, that has a clear Nazi basis and
carries out a policy of ethnic cleansing, from Deir Yassin to Sabra and
Shatila. Israel is unique in its corrupt and base political and social
system that discriminates between people based on their religion or
ethnicity… Israel, with the help of the international Zionist octopus,
forced its new democratic political thought on many European countries and
legislated laws prohibiting free thought and scientific research about the
legends that founded the Zionist state…” (5)

In the government weekly Akhbar Al-Youm, columnist Jalal ‘Aref asks: “Is
Nazism in Austria or in Israel?” and blames Israel for operating “by the
same Nazi logic that they are above everyone else and they have a right to
rob peoples, exploit their treasures, force their will on others, and scorn
UN resolutions. Is it not what Israel has done since its inception as
stateless gangs and until it became a state that thinks with the logic of
gangs? The only difference is that the world
fought Nazism until it collapsed, but now, the victims are required to give up.” (6)

A Voice of Morality and Reason

A different perspective is that of journalist and intellectual Muhammad
Sayyid Ahmad who, writing in the government Al-Ahram Weekly, views Haider,
and not Israel, as the real neo-Nazi threat:

“The attempt to downplay the significance of and even to minimize the threat
it represents is extremely dangerous and I personally believe that our stand
should not be determined as necessarily the opposite of the stand taken by
Israel…”

“The European peoples who bore the brunt of Nazi excesses throughout WWII
have every right to worry about similarities between the ideological
platform of Haider’s Freedom party and that of Hitler’s National Socialism.
If the similarities are not obvious to the majority of Austrians, they
certainly are to the majority of EU citizens of which Austria is a part… ”

For the Europeans, Haider’s rise in Austria is chillingly similar to
Hitler’s rise in Germany in the early 30’s and Mussolini’s in Italy in the
20’s. Like them, he is a populist hero who taps into his countrymenâs
insecurities and xenophobia. Unabashedly anti-immigrant, he accuses
immigrant workers of depriving Austrians of the jobsâ¦ and of lowering their
standard of living because they are willing to accept inferior wages. He has
been quoted as praising many of the policies of the Third Reich, and is an
outspoken critic of the government’s plans to compensate Austrian Jews for
the persecution they suffered under Nazi rule… ”

“We must not allow the evils that have accompanied the globalization process
to drive us into committing the same mistakes we committed before WWII.
Frustration with globalization should not lead us to espouse Nazism as an
expression of protest against, and dissatisfaction with, a unipolar world
order led by the US. Nor should Israel’s opposition to the rise of Nazism in
Austria be used as a pretext to stand on the side of Nazism wherever it
emerges. Israel can fan the flames of the anti-Nazi campaign, but it is not
because of Israel that the campaign erupted in the first place… ” (7)

Part II: On the Escalation in Lebanon

The recent escalation of Hizbullah operations in Southern Lebanon, Israelâs
retaliation against Lebanonâs electrical system, and Israeli Foreign
Minister David Levy’s threat that “If Kiryat Shmona is
burned – then the land of Lebanon will burn,” have
prompted an extreme response from the Egyptian media.

All Israeli Leaders are Terrorists

In the government daily, Al-Gumhuriyah, columnist Adel Suleiman in an
article entitled “Satan’s Peace,” writes “â¦The Foreign Minister of the
Satan, Israel, stated that the land of Lebanon will burn if Hizbullah
fighters launch Katusha rockets at the land of Satan… Those who say that
the election of Barak is a turning point in Israel are seriously wrong
because Netanyahu and Barak were made of the same material from whence came
Moshe Dayan, Ben-Gurion, Begin, and other leaders of Satan’s state, Israel.
This is the stuff of terror, the stuff of international Zionism, which
supported, and continues to support, the Hebrew state of Satan. The Jewish
lobby identifies with any government and with anyone
who heads it. The chief of all Satans, Ehud Barak, has taken off the robe
of terror, remains a terrorist and a professional in the art of terror.” (1)

Israeli Policy similar to Nazism

Writing in the government daily Akhbar Al-Yaum, Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud states:

“We received your message, Ehud Barak, a message of hate and enmity. Your
loathsome words reached our ears and the depth of our hearts. This is
Nazism, Mr. Barak. The same Nazism with which Hitler treated you. Now you
are using the same language, the language of the crematorium. America is
turning a blind eye, because you are America’s hands in the region. You are
doing its job in its stead. You are the dirty hands of Western imperialism
in our landâ¦ you are the new Nazis without Hitler.” (2)

In the government weekly, October, columnist Rajab Al-Bana blames Israel for
establishing crematoriums for the Arabs: “Israel is now declaring the
establishment of crematoriums for the Arabs after cried out for
help, claiming that the Arabs were going to throw her into the sea. The
Israelis know better than anybody else what crematoriums are. They have
experience with it. An experience which they have injected into the heads
of world leadersâ¦ But after they demanded the condemnation of the
crematoriums the Nazis operated against the Jews, it is they who now operate
crematoriums against the Arabs.” (3)

In the leading government daily Al-Ahram, columnist Salameh Ahmad Salameh
writes: “The ugly face of the impulse to exterminate and kill civilians is
hidden deep in the Israeli mind, which cannot free itself from them. Israel
brought the scorched-earth policy conducted by the Nazis to a higher level.” (4)

A Call to Expel Israel’s Ambassdor

In the opposition daily, Al-Ahrar, of the Islamic “Liberal Party,” in an
article entitled “Expel the Israeli Ambassador,” columnist Adel Al-Jojari,
who is also the editor of the weekly Al-Ghad Al-Arabi, writes: “I demand the
expulsion of the Zionist ambassador to Cairo. This ambassador represents
his country and its Foreign Minister, and if the Minister is a Nazi, then
the ambassador acts on his instructions. The terrorist history of
government people in the Zionist entity beginning with Barak and ending with
that one called Levy is a secret to no one. The expulsion of the Zionist
ambassador is the least .

We do not need a diplomat representing a gang that rules a state on the land
of Palestine. We do not need diplomatic relations with a gang that kills
women and children in Lebanon, destroys the infrastructure and does not
respect its international commitments, the April agreement in particular.
The decisive and only response to this violation of the agreement is that every Zionist, in every place in the world, is a target that
should be hit. If David Levy threatens ‘blood for blood’ – the blood of
every Lebanese child, man or woman – we have a right to avenge the Zionist
blood, whatever his name and title may be.

“The Zionist ambassador drinks from the waters of the Nile
forbidden to him. He eats from the fruit of our soil when he has no right
to it, and he breathes our air, which we hope that Allah will turn into
carbon dioxide, so that it suffocates him and keeps him from enjoying one
moment on our land. The black days that brought this ambassador to our land
will pass with Allah’s help, because we do not want him to continue here for
one day. He must go back to the country where he was born, which is
certainly not the land of Palestine.

The Zionist ambassador is a terrorist like his Foreign Minister, who is no
longer a Jew, because there is a difference between Judaism, which is a
monotheistic religion that deserves all respect, and Zionism, which is a
terrorist, expansionist ideology that we despise with open hostility. We
say in all frankness that the Zionist entity will remain an enemy with whom
we will not make peace, even if all Arab rulers sign peace agreements with
it. Nor shall we recognize it, because we cannot concede our
identity. But Levy and his ilk, the Nazi Zionists, cry tears of blood, when
they see the corpses of the Israeli defense forces returning from south
Lebanon still warm. The number of corpses will rise.
This is a promise given by Hassan Nasrallah .

The Lebanese resistance is what forced David Levy to burst out in threats,
ranting and raving like Hitler and Mussolini, and all the other fascists and
Nazis. We do not wish but that Allah will burn his heart and that of every
Zionist until they leave our land, not only from South Lebanon but from all
the land of Palestine.” (5)

Part III: “International Jewish Conspiracies”

The Egyptian media, both government and opposition, frequently accuses the
Jews of formenting plots and conspiracies worldwide, contributing to the
historical demonization of the Jewish character.

Jews Poach Scientific Glory

In an investigative report in the Egyptian government weekly, Al-Ahram, on
the election of the scientist of the century, reporters Marwah Mashali and
Muhammad D’isa claim that the Jews marginalized the Egyptian recipient of
this year’s Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Dr. Ahmad Zuweil: “The world saluted
Dr. Ahmad Zuweil for his historic discovery, which serves humanity in all
applied sciences.”

“No one could have imagined that Zionism would perform its usual
trick in marginalizing and minimizing the achievement of this extraordinary
Egyptian scientist. As they could not find any competitor with him from his
own generation, nor any weak point, they rummaged around in graves and
resurrected the dead to bring up the Jewish scientist Albert Einstein as the
scientific personality of the twentieth century.”

“Despite the ugliness of this scandalous attempt, the real tragedy lies in
the ploys they used to spread their scientific conspiracy. Dr. Zuweil’s
discovery — which Time magazine disregarded, claiming that it was a cumulative effort — is no less important a discovery than
theory of relativity.”

“Through their domination of the media, the Jews tried to diminish the
importance of Dr. Zuweil’s discovery, despite the fact that the world is
expecting great achievements for humanity in the future as a result of Dr.
Zuweil’s discovery.” (1)

Jews Cause Kohl’s Demise

Another issue of Al-Ahram weekly explains how international Zionism caused
the collapse of German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, because he did not accept
their demands of additional compensation for the Holocaust: “After Zionism
took control of the media of West Germany, the charge of anti-Semitism in
Germany became worse than that of premeditated murder.”

“If a West German official attempted to stand up to the will of
international Zionism, the entire media would reconstruct his history since
his childhood in the Hitler Youth to his service as a young recruit in
Hitler’s army. It wouldn’t be difficult to
obtain a picture of him in his uniform bearing the swastika, which
would bring about his removal from public office and his political demise.”

“When Chancellor Kohl and his government rejected the Jewish requests for
renewed compensation for what they called the forced labor of Jews in the
Hitler era, the Gates of Hell opened on them. Initially, they
began with accusations in the media against him on the role Germany played
in the Gulf War. They leaked to the media that the Helmut Kohl’s Christian
Democrat Party, illegally and against the constitution. received money and
support in millions from an arms dealer named Schreiber, as well as from a
known German company involved in the sale of German tanks to Saudi Arabia
during the Gulf crisis.”

International Zionism took advantage of this deal, the expenses accompanying
it, and the payments by that arms dealer a frenzied attack on
Chancellor Kohl and his aides in the party — an attack that was conducted
by the Zionist propaganda, which constitutes more than seventy percent of
the media in Germany.” (2)

Jews Forge Egyptian History in their Favor

In the government daily, Al-Akhbar, columnist Jamal Al-Ghitani writes:
“Enmity toward the ancient Egyptian culture is a basic tenet of the Jewish
Zionist ideology. It is an age-old enmity, appearing openly and clearly in
their Scriptures, varying in expression from one age to another. Now they
begin with an offensive of lies against the ancient Egyptian culture, at the
center of which is the claim that the Jews were part of the glory of this
culture, or at least constituted a primary element of it.”

“Our great symbol, the Pyramids, are their primary target. In his first
visit to Egypt, Menahem Begin stated that
his ancestors participated in the building of the Pyramids. Whoever uses
the internet will be amazed by the huge amount of Zionist internet sites
spreading lies and false claims regarding the Pyramids.” (3)

In the government weekly, Akher Sa’ah, reporter Ihab Fathi elaborates on the
same issue under the title “The Jews Enter the Internet with the Goal of
Forging Egypt’s History.”:

“ the huge
Zionist propaganda machine began inundating us with thousands of studies in
order to prove their claim through a huge act of historical forgery. When
this attempt slid towards failure, they changed their tactics but re-invigorated
the strategy of forgery. Now the builders of the pyramids
were Jews but aliens from other planets and extraterrestrial cultures.” (4)

Jews Deprive Egyptian Infants of Milk

An unsigned report in the opposition daily, Al-Wafd, claims that a “Jewish
Company” is depriving Egyptian infants of milk by causing a steep rise in
its price. (5)
