August 1, 1997
After nearly 4 years and hundreds of terrorist attacks,
the State Department has finally admitted what the Zionist Organization of
America has been saying all along: the PLO is not complying with the Oslo
accords.
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright conceded on July 31, 1997,
that “the United States could not verify” that the PLO “is complying with
its accords with Israel.” (Jewish Telegraphic Agency, August 1, 1997)
ZOA National President Morton A. Klein said: “For nearly 4 years,
the ZOA has been monitoring and exposing the PLO’s constant violations of
the accords, and for nearly 4 years the State Department has been issuing
reports that minimized, distorted, and whitewashed the PLO’s violations.
Now Secretary of State Albright has finally admitted the truth: the State
Department has no basis on which to certify that the PLO is complying with
the accords.”
Since 1994, the ZOA has been monitoring PLO violations and
providing Congress with a biweekly list documenting the latest violations.
The also initiated the creation of bipartisan Peace Accord Monitoring
groups in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, to which 56
Members of Congress (28 Democrats and 28 Republicans) belong.
The PLO violations that the ZOA has been publicizing include:
failing to disarm or outlaw terrorist groups; failing to transfer
terrorists to Israel for prosecution; failing to change the 30 out of 33
clauses in the PLO Covenant that call for Israel’s destruction or urge
violence against Israel; failing to punish PLO factions that engage in
terrorism; making speeches calling for “jihad” against Israel and praising
the killers of Jews as ‘heroes’ and ‘martyrs’; using maps that depict all
of Israel as “Palestine”; and posting anti-Semitic and anti-Israel material
on the official PLO web site.
